Although every horror story of the music business is included, the story remains fresh and the acting excellent. Music is fine, but secondary to the people. Well written characters with few cliches.Through the years students have asked if I had the music or words to some of the songs the Five Heartbeats sang in their movie. I didn't have the soundtrack but I was determined to purchase it. Unfortunately, a lot of stores didn't carry older CD's in stock. Since that time I have purchased the soundtrack from Amazon.
