Did that for BO1 and BO3 and I can play all of the DLC maps no problem in those games through Steam despite not buying the map packs..If you want to experience the main storyline then you do need all the DLC maps MINUS the 'Zombies Chronicles' maps, which you will get regardless of what version of the game you buy.
